High Peaks Black Cherry Mai Tai

If you’re the type of person who needs a reason to have a Mai Tai: you’re in luck! Today is National Mai Tai Day and we at High Peaks love mixing our CBD seltzers with cocktails. So here is a fun recipe for you to make for yourself at home today (and maybe tomorrow too, if you’d like!) This recipe utilizes our Black Cherry CBD Seltzer, which has zero calories and zero sugar added.

The traditional Mai Tai was made to showcase high-quality rums. Sadly, Mai Tai’s, like so many other cocktails, fell victim to overly sweetened interpretations in the 90’s. Today, you’ll see them more often done their justice with fresh fruits, high-quality rums, and if you’re lucky: a little CBD seltzer from High Peaks!

I chose the black cherry flavor from High Peaks because I felt it played well with the Pierre Ferrand Dry Curaçao, which is a dry orange liqueur, less sweet than its peers like Cointreau or Combier. All of this with the traditional Mai Tai flavors makes a fresh, fruit-forward cocktail that isn’t overly sweet.

Black Cherry Mai Tai

  • 2 ounces High Peaks Black Cherry CBD Seltzer
  • 1 ½ ounces Denizen 3 Year Rum
  • ½ ounce lime juice
  • ½ ounce Pierre Ferrand Dry Curaçao
  • ½ ounce orgeat*
  • ½ ounce Velvet Falernum
  • ½ ounce Plantation OFTD Rum
  • 1 Maraschino Cherry
  • 1 dehydrated orange wheel

Add Denizen 3 Year Rum, lime juice, Pierre Ferrand Dry Curaçao, orgeat, and Velvet Falernum to a shaker with ice, shake.

Pour into rocks glass, top with more ice to fill.

Add High Peaks Black Cherry CBD Seltzer.

Slowly pour Plantation OFTD Rum over top so that it floats.

Garnish with Maraschino Cherry skewered through dehydrated orange wheel.

Up front you will get the overproof rum on the nose, backed by the fresh lightness of black cherry. Next, you’ll get the familiar notes of a Mai Tai: tart but balanced with the sweetness of the orgeat and Velvet Falernum. The subtility of the Denizen rum will blend in nicely.

So cheers to National Mai Tai Day and any excuse to mix cocktails with CBD seltzers!
