Virgin Paloma Recipe
You’re another week into Sober September, congratulations! We’re still here for you, cheering you on!
Here’s a fun and super easy recipe for any of you craving tequila or mezcal: it’s a classic Virgin Paloma utilizing High Peaks Sparkling Water and Hemp Extract Grapefruit.
You’re going to need:
- 1 grapefruit
- About 2 tablespoons of salt
- ½ ounce grapefruit juice
- ½ ounce lime juice
- 1 can of High Peaks Grapefruit Sparkling Water (using 6 ounces)
- 1 paper towel
- Highball glass or large rocks glass
First, make yourself two wheels with your grapefruit. One thicker (about ¾ – 1 inch) and one thinner (about ¼ inch). Put the thick wheel on a small plate, set the thinner one aside for garnish later.
Pour your salt onto a different small plate, you’re going to use it to rim the glass so feel free to add more if you want.
Take your glass and put it upside down on the thick grapefruit wheel. Apply pressure so that the flesh of the grapefruit gets juice on the rim of your glass, twist the glass, make sure you get the outside rim coated in juice more than the inside. You may get splashed in the process, consider yourself warned! Your goal is to make the rim sticky so that the salt sticks to it.
Once you’re done, you can discard that wheel or continue to use it if you want to make more drinks. (Same with the salt.) The more you use the grapefruit wheel, the better because the glass will create an indent and make coating easier.
Next dip your glass, upside down in the salt tray you made, move it around to coat the rim. The salt should stick easily. If it doesn’t, wipe the rim clean and start over. This time, apply more pressure when you use the grapefruit wheel. When you’re done coating the rim in salt, keep the glass upside down and, using a paper towel, run the paper towel along the inside of the glass to remove the salt that is sticking to the inside.
Fill your glass with ice. Now, use your thin grapefruit wheel as garnish by placing it inside the glass so it’s pressed between the glass and the ice.
Now we build the drink!
Add the lime juice, grapefruit juice, and top with the 6 ounces of High Peaks Grapefruit Sparkling Water.
So there’s an easy, healthy recipe to help you survive the sobriety this week! Best of luck!
